Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces That Shape Our Decisions by Dan Ariely
“Humans are emotional beings, masquerading as logical ones.” This is a quote that Dan Ariely, the author of Predictably Irrational, would likely agree with. Despite our brain’s ability to think logically, we still make plenty of our decisions based on emotion. That’s why when you look from a distance, many of the things that we do every day, actually turn out to be more irrational than we would like to believe.
That’s the driving force behind Predictably Irrational. The book helps to explain everything from the placebo effect, to why we’ll spend handsomely on one product, and then worry about losing fifty cents somewhere else. What’s interesting is that despite the irrational behavior, it is predictable. Hence the title: Predictably Irrational. An interesting book that’s worth reading, even if you aren’t typically interested in psychology.
