Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
What’s the easiest way to produce significant amounts of high quality work without feeling overburdened or worn out? Get into a flow state. That is, a state where time seems to speed up and you’re focused on little else besides the task at hand. In Flow, Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi talks about what flow state is, and how you can reach it.
His findings suggest that the best way to reach flow is through doing a task that’s not too difficult, and not too easy. When you’re working on something that challenges you at just the right level you’re setting yourself up to go into a flow state. It’s a pleasurable experience and one that we all yearn for. Flow is a great book to read no matter what kind of work you do. While dry at some points, it provides lots of valuable, actionable information that you’ll be glad to learn.
